Charles Dickens’ famous Christmas ghost story about the miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, and his transformation into a more generous person, is almost as synonymous with the Holidays season as Santa himself. Unfortunately, we don’t think a reskin job is enough to transform iSoftBet’s mediocre and stingy Western Gold Megaways in to a more generous slot. The Xmas theme is well done though, with plenty of action commentary from Scrooge himself.

We do like the random maxed out Megaways spin you get, as it’s very seldom you see such spins land organically. The biggest problem with the original, and therefore also this Holidays version, is that squeezing out significant payouts from the hold-and-win style Cash Respin feature seems to require nothing short of a Christmas miracle. The largest jackpot is only 50x, and this concept would have fared much better if it was boosted up to at least 5,000x instead.

Scrooge Megaways Features

The premium symbols pay 2 to 25 x your stake for 6-oak wins, and the wild steps in for all regular pay symbols to help complete winning combos. It can land on reels 2 to 6 only, and the wild holds no value of its own. Winning symbols are removed via the Cascading Wins mechanic, and new/existing symbols drop down to fill the gaps.

Review Summary

Being a reskin of iSoftBet’s second Megaways release, Western Gold, which was a bit of a downer compared to their smash hit debut, Aztec Gold Megaways, we didn’t expect all that much from Scrooge Megaways. We were pleasantly surprised by the fun action commentary and the overall Xmas mood however, but the gameplay itself has unfortunately not changed one bit.

The maxed out Megaways spin modifier is probably your best shot at cracking the 12,000x potential, cause we hardly see how it can be done in the Scrooge Cash Respins round. Even a full grid with 6 active reel multipliers can award relatively small payouts in the 200x range, so you’ll need a whole lot of 50x Future symbols to do serious damage. Scrooge Megaways is a decent seasonal reskin job, but significantly larger jackpot prizes would have gone a long way.
