Night Roller is a board game slot from Red Tiger, and it plays out on a 5x5 grid with 30 paylines. Set in a bird’s eye view of Las Vegas, you’ll roll the dice to move a piggy bank token around the Feature Board surrounding the reels. You get a roll on each spin during the bonus round, where payouts up to 5,824x your stake can be landed.

Night Roller Review

We have to admit that we think Night Roller is a pretty cool sounding title, but the bright lights from the Vegas strip in the background are kind of distracting. Sure, you can put on a fancy suit, throw some cash around for a night or two, but it doesn’t really make you a big shot. The same goes for this game. It tries very hard to be spectacular, but the math model is holding it back.

The low symbol values (2.5x for 5 top paying diamonds on a payline), combined with the aquawardly low amount of win ways, turns the flashy suit into a straightjacket. The overall potential is not as ridiculously incongruent as in Red Tiger’s glitzy Trillionaire, but it still seems far fetched. In addition, you get the usual lower-than-average RTP (and RTP ranges), making this release less attractive than many better alternatives in the board game slot genre.

Night Roller slot Features

Whenever you land the Mystery Dice scatter, the dice takes center stage on the next spin. It will roll a number between 1 and 6, and then you’ll see the piggy bank token being moved along the Feature Board the corresponding number of squares.

If you land on a modifier, it remains locked in place until you hit a new modifier. There are 4 modifiers to benefit from, as follows:

  • Life is Golden – awards a random wild on every spin.
  • Multipliers – multipliers of 2x, 3x or 5x boosts your winnings.
  • Bombs Away – removes all low-value symbols from the reels.
  • Coin It – awards a single instant cash prize between 0.1x and 3x your stake.

The Bonus Round is triggered when you land on the Spin-Out square on the Feature Board, and this gives you 10 free spins. The dice is rolled on every free spin, and this can potentially give you multiple modifiers at the same time. Multipliers accumulate, meaning that their respective values are added together as you land on them. You get +5 extra spins if you land on the Spin-Out square during the bonus round.

Our 3-minute highlights video starts out with a bigger win, where we almost filled the screen with the top paying diamond symbol.

We then skip to the bonus round a bit after, which is triggered at 1:04 into the video. We managed to build up a pretty decent multiplier, and you can see for yourself how much we got away with by hitting the play button.

Review Summary

We can’t help but feel that if Red Tiger had put some more thought into this, the game could have been that much better. Having plenty of base game features is nice for varied gameplay, but the low symbol values pretty much ruins your hope for larger returns. The 5,824x potential looks nice on paper, but when you do the math, it looks bleak.

Even with a 5x multiplier, a full screen of diamonds pay only 375x your stake. While collecting features and building the multiplier seemed easy enough in the bonus round, actually landing worthwhile winning combos was another story altogether. We hardly see this release threatening the likes of say Monopoly Megaways, and it comes across as a watered-down wannabe in the board game genre.

Pros

  • Board game with 4 unique modifiers
  • Bonus round w/ board game roll on every spin
  • Win up to 5,824x your stake

Cons

  • RTP of 95.68 % is below average
  • Beware of customizable RTP ranges
  • Low symbol value makes bigger wins unlikely

Monopoly Megaways - is a very good alternative if you like board game based slots. It comes with up to 117,649 win ways, and the Reel Adventure feature moves you along the board that awards different modifiers. The bonus round comes with an unlimited progressive multiplier, and you can win up to 15,000x your stake.

Jumanji - is a visually stunning board game adaptation from NetEnt, based around the blockbuster 1995 movie starring the late Robin Williams.

It comes with amazing visual effects, and plenty of fun features (including 4 unique bonus rounds). The volatility is low, and you can win up to 504x your stake.

Racetrack Riches Megaboard - combines the irish luck theme with a classic race track board game, and it’s a sight to behold indeed. You’ll roll the dice to move the leprechaun jockey along the modifier track on his wooden horse, and payouts up to 5,000x can be landed.
