Microgaming partner, Half Pixel Studio, released their debut title, Retro Galaxy, about 1 year ago, so it’s safe to say they’ve taken their sweet time with this second effort. Atlantis The Forgotten Kingdom is set in a nicely crafted underwater world teeming with life, and everything is accompanied by a very soothing and spacious ambient soundtrack.

Everything revolves around 4 chesty mermaid symbols, and these are also represented on the left-hand side bonus reel. Land 4 matching symbols on that reel, and the base game is lived up by a fully stacked multiplier wild. It can take a while between triggers though, and even longer between bonus rounds. The audiovisual presentation was perhaps more convincing than the actual features, but this is still a decent effort overall.

The 4 mermaid premium symbols land as regular 1x1 symbols, but they also come stacked in sizes 1x2 and 1x3. They pay between 3 and 6 x your stake for 5 of a kind, and each premium symbol can turn wild in the feature we’ll take a closer look at below.

Review Summary

First of all, we have to say that Half Pixel Studio has managed to create a very convincing and pleasant underwater experience in Atlantis The Forgotten Kingdom. We found ourselves daydreaming along with the spacious soundtrack, as schools of fish swim by and jellyfish climb towards the surface. The visuals are almost more fascinating than the gameplay itself, at least until a stacked wild finally triggers.

With or without a multiplier attached, the stacked wilds usually don’t make a massive impact in the base game, although the occasional top-up win will occur.

Having plenty of options in the bonus round is always nice, but choose wisely, as it can take a while between each trigger. Overall, this is pretty solid stuff from a budding Microgaming partner, without being anything out of the ordinary featurewise.
